Community

Community based service

Our commitment to our community is currently worked out in our Backpack program and our clothes closet. We house the Crete Backpack program which currently offers food to families that need a little help with their food budget. Each week that school is in session, a qualifying student can take a backpack full of food home to nourish the family. Currently we have great community support and are able to provide 110 backpacks a week.

Our clothes closet offers gently used clothing for people finding themselves in some transitions. We can arrange to have our clothes closet open to fit not only good clothing, but convenient times.

Several of us make a trip to Walmart to repurpose food that is approaching a past date and then find families that can find a use for this food soon.

We provide monthly food distributions in cooperation with the Food Bank of Lincoln.

We are an approved Red Cross shelter for the community when a crisis strikes. People are prepared to bring what is needed when something happens to Crete and we need to rally.

Our Activities and Reflection Center (ARC) is home to dozens of community-based organizations from scouts, to 4-H to community groups. Just call the office if your group is looking for space to meet.
